Overview

The Mardi Himal Trek is one of the hidden gems of the Annapurna region. This relatively short and less-crowded trek offers stunning close-up views of the Annapurna range, including Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Mardi Himal. Opened to trekkers after 2012, it remains a peaceful and off-the-beaten-path trekking destination in Nepal.

The trek is ideal for travelers with limited time who still want a complete Himalayan experience, including diverse landscapes such as lush forests, terraced fields, traditional villages, and scenic valleys.

The journey typically begins with a drive or flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followed by a drive to Kande. From there, a short hike leads to Australian Camp, offering panoramic mountain views. The trail continues through Forest Camp, Low Camp, and High Camp, gradually gaining altitude while passing through beautiful rhododendron and pine forests.

From Mardi Himal High Camp, a challenging early morning hike of around 3–4 hours leads to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m approx.), where trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the entire Annapurna massif.

The descent follows the same route back to Kande via Low Camp, offering a final opportunity to enjoy the stunning landscapes.

The region is mainly inhabited by the Gurung community, allowing trekkers to experience rich local culture, traditions, and warm Himalayan hospitality.

Mardi Himal Trek is a moderate yet rewarding adventure, best undertaken during spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) when the weather is clear and mountain views are at their best.

A perfect short Himalayan trek combining nature, culture, and adventure.
